How does EDM technology actually differ from conventional machining using CNC grinding machines? Mainly because this technology does not work with machine tools, but with the thermal and pressure effect of an electric discharge. Thanks to these discharges, the workpiece can be machined with high precision and surface cleanliness.
One of the main advantages of EDM is the possibility of machining very hard materials, such as annealed or hardened steel, conductive ceramics, or polycrystalline diamonds. At NAVEL, we use wire cutting and spark erosion countersinking for manufacturing pressing tools and making cavities and holes. We also use it to refurbish and renovate damaged turning and milling VBD tools.
